چکیده

-1. Wing epidermis from diapausing and non-diapausing silkmoths (Antheraea pernyi) was assayed for NADH [nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (reduced form)] oxidase, NADHand succinate-cyctochrome c reductases, and cytochrome c oxidase. 2. Diapausing pupae showed a marked decline in activities after pupation and the same subsequent profile of very low activities reported for diapausing Cecropia silkmoths. 3. Non-diapausing pupae showed only a slight and transient decline after pupation and otherwise retained relatively high activities throughout metamorphosis.

Diapause Induction, Color Change, and Cold Tolerance Physiology of the Diapausing Larvae of the Chouioia cunea (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae)

The chalcid wasp Chouioia cunea Yang (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) is one of the most dominant pupal parasitoids of Hyphantria cunea (Drury) (Lepidoptera: Arctiidae), an invasive pest of many forestry trees and agricultural crops. For mass rearing C. cunea for biological control purposes, the pupae of Antheraea pernyi (Guérin-Méneville) (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) have been widely used as a substitu...

Serotonin Receptor B May Lock the Gate of PTTH Release/Synthesis in the Chinese Silk Moth, Antheraea pernyi; A Diapause Initiation/Maintenance Mechanism?

The release of prothoracicotropic hormone, PTTH, or its blockade is the major endocrine switch regulating the developmental channel either to metamorphosis or to pupal diapause in the Chinese silk moth, Antheraea pernyi. We have cloned cDNAs encoding two types of serotonin receptors (5HTRA and B). 5HTRA-, and 5HTRB-like immunohistochemical reactivities (-ir) were colocalized with PTTH-ir in two...

Diapause-Associated Protein3 Functions as Cu/Zn Superoxide Dismutase in the Chinese Oak Silkworm (Antheraea pernyi)

To better understand the molecular mechanism underlying of diapause in Antheraea pernyi (A. pernyi), we cloned a novel diapause-associated protein 3 (DAP3) gene from A. pernyi by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and studied the biological functions. Sequence analysis revealed that this gene encodes 171 amino acids and has a conserved domain of Copper/Zinc superoxide dism...

THE ACTION SPECTRUM FOR BREAKING DIAPAUSE IN THE CODLING MOTH, Laspeyresia pomonella (L.), AND THE OAK SILKWORM, Antheraea pernyi GUER.

The action spectrum for breaking diapause in the oak silkworm, Antheraea pernyi Guer., and the codling moth, Laspeyresia pomonella (L.), was determined from 400 to 700 nm with a wedge-interference spectrograph. Insects were exposed to ten hours of white light, followed by six hours of spectral light each day for 45 days. The portion of the spectrum between 400 and 500 nm was found to be the mos...

Construction of a full-length cDNA Library from Chinese oak silkworm pupa and identification of a KK-42-binding protein gene in relation to pupa-diapause termination

In this study we successfully constructed a full-length cDNA library from Chinese oak silkworm, Antheraea pernyi, the most well-known wild silkworm used for silk production and insect food. Total RNA was extracted from a single fresh female pupa at the diapause stage. The titer of the library was 5 x 10(5) cfu/ml and the proportion of recombinant clones was approximately 95%. Expressed sequence...
